This excerpt from Building Resilience showcases one of the products we invited to be on the show, Pella's new Steady Set windows. In the full episode, Micheal discusses all of the innovative features, but here, we focus on the top two: Flip-and-click-brackets and the head stabilizer.

TRANSCRIPT:

We've been installing Windows for a long time, three decades actually, and rarely have we come across an innovation that totally changes how we install windows. Now, we have not just one Innovation but six Innovations on a single window that completely change how we install windows.

At first glance, this window may look like a traditional wood unit—but what stands out are the brackets surrounding the frame.

Flip and Click Brackets position the window perfectly

These are Flip-and-Click brackets designed to allow installation inside the framing. Here’s how they work:

  • Slide the bracket into its receiver.

  • It locks into place, setting the window at the exact correct position.

No more nudging windows in and out to get the right reveal—this system eliminates all that trial and error.

Even better, with interior installation, there’s no need for ladders or scaffolding. That means:

  • No lifting heavy windows up the side of a house.

  • No working precariously outside.
Everything is handled from the interior—faster, safer, and more efficient.

Most importantly, with this system, we're installing from the inside, we're not carrying windows up ladders, and we're not messing around on scaffolding. All of that difficult work that has traditionally taken place on the outside of the building is gone

Head stabilizer removes the need for a second set of hands

Another noticeable feature is the metal tabs sticking up from the top of the window frame. These are called head stabilizers. Normally, window installation is a two-person job:

  • One person holds the window in place.

  • The other adjusts it and fastens it off.

But with the head stabilizers, a single installer can now do the job.

  • When the window is placed in the opening, the stabilizers engage with the wood framing above, holding the window upright.

  • This prevents the unit from tipping backward, giving the installer time to adjust and secure it—no second pair of hands is required.
