We're all familiar with Dupont and their great stuffed line of foam products. We got their low-expansion foam that we use around our windows and doors for air sealing. We've got their gap and crack filler for gaps up to an inch and a newer product, their wide spray foam sealant, which is a pretty cool product. It has a bunch of new features, most notably that you can spray from some distance—up to 20 inches.
What's in the Great Stuff box
The product comes in a box with two canisters and multiple nozzles. There are two types of nozzles. One is a cone tip-type nozzle that will give us a round spray application, and the other is a fan tip. The fan tip comes with a little dial so that I can turn it and adjust the angle of the fan spray when I'm spraying it. It also comes with instructions at the top of the box, which is super handy, so you can never say you didn't have the instructions.
Unique features of Seal It
There's a bunch of things that are unique about this product. First, it's a moisture-cured product. When we apply it to a moist or wet surface, the foam will cure nicely. Many other foam products are chemically cured and, therefore, require very dry substrates. This product, in fact, will do better if the substrate is a little wet.
Proper mixing and application
Shake the foam for at least 60 seconds before applying it. That will mix the blowing agent with the foam chemical itself. The other important piece is that when we apply it, we have the can facing down. This ensures that the blowing agent mixes with the foam, and we get a full product disbursement. If you spray it like this, the gas will come out, and the foam will stay in the can—and we don't want that.
