Ceilings in Mexico are often made with bricks laid in “bobeda” style, or in arches between steel beams that later are plastered and finished with lime.
I personally like exposed brick, but my Mexican builder buddies say it's unsightly and unfinished. In our apartment, I relented to the local real estate norms, and we have covered the ceilings with plaster.
